My Books
The initial goal of this website was to be used as a venue for family and friends could visit and keep up to date on the Raghunathan family adventures in Accra, Ghana.
But the more time I spent as an ex-patriate in Ghana, the more I realized what a unique experience it is and how little is known about this lifestyle outside of those living it themselves. So, I decided I would use the material I have been writing in the blog and turn it into a series of children's books so that children all over the world can see and understand the expat lifestyle firsthand. And, for those children who are living as expats, they can see that they are not alone in their experiences. I have written two more books in the series, but I'm on the hunt for a publisher to take them on. The illustrator is a local Ghanaian and he did a fantastic job!
Ultimately, I dream of taking a majority of the blog material and writing a non-fiction book for adults about expat living with kids and our own experiences as a family.

"There is nothing else like this on the market for kids who become expats. We are so grateful for Kim to share her family experience so we can all benefit. This book is so well written, clear and is a great conversation starter for families who are moving or have cousins or friends who have moved."
From Charleston to Accra
My first book which has resulted directly from this blog is in print and available for purchase! It is a children's book, ideal for kids ages 3 to 8 years-old, and it is roughly based on our original move from Charleston, South Carolina, to Accra, Ghana. The story follows Leela and her family as they navigate and grapple with all the emotions, logistics, and adventures that an international move entails. The book is available at select locations in Accra (Vidya Bookstore in Labone or Osu) and Northwest Houston, Texas (Copperfield Books & Village Books).
"From Charleston to Accra written by Kimberly Gail Raghunathan is a well written and beautifully illustrated book about a little girl on the adventure of a lifetime. The second graders have read and reread this soon to be classic about the joys and fears of moving to a new home. It is sprinkled with fun, and chocolate is involved in one of the many adventures the young family takes as they move to a new land. Our class gives this book four stars for its easy read style and was loved by all!"

"My kids loved this fun book about moving to a different country! The illustrations were very sweet and the quality of the physical book is great. We related to a lot of aspects personally because of our many moves, but children who have never travelled will also enjoy this peek into overseas life. Hoping to see more adventures of Lela and Tara published soon!"
